Background

More than one billion people are living without safe drinking water, with sub-Saharan Africa being the worst affected

More than three million people die every year from diseases caused by unsafe water.

People are forced to risk disease by collecting water from open sources, rivers or unprotected wells.
Many people must walk large distances to collect water, sometimes many kilometres. Conventional pumps require skilled engineers for repairs.
Pump Aid's Elephant Pump has a cheap, simple design. It can be easily constructed and repaired from materials available locally. Pump Aid is providing clean, safe water for people in Zimbabwe. Click the links on the left to learn more about Pump Aid's work and how you can help.
