Future Plans

Over the next three years Pump Aid plans to expand its programme in Zimbabwe firstly in Manicaland Province then seeding in other parts of the country. Preliminary investigation indicates that there is potential for the Elephant Pump to provide enormous benefits in many areas of Zimbabwe.
Pump Aid has made steps for expansion over the border into Mozambique. An expedition was conducted to investigate the potential and generate the background of research needed for Pump Aid to expand operations into Manica Province. There is widespread severe poverty in this province and a lack of clean water is one of the fundamental problems. Ten demonstration pumps were built to give people chance to see and use this technology. Pump Aid is currently in discussion with various stakeholders in the Mozambican water sector, but hopes to expand operations in the course of the next year.
After a research expedition in May 2004, Pump Aid has partnered with World Vision to pilot 20 Elephant Pumps in the Chiradzulu District of Malawi. The intention is that these pumps will launch the Elephant Pump technology in Malawi and that Pump Aid will work with World Vision and other partners to install Elephant Pumps in 2005 and beyond.
Several other countries have learnt of the work of Pump Aid in Zimbabwe and invitations have been received for Pump Aid to introduce the Elephant Pump technology in those countries. Exploratory investigations will be conducted in these countries with a view to propagating similar projects under the supervision of Pump Aid. In the UK and worldwide it is hoped to expand the educational component of Pump Aid's work through talks at schools and public exhibitions.
