On 27 November The Times newspaper announced that it has chosen Pump Aid as a recepient for this year's Times Christmas Charity Appeal.
Amy Cruse, Development Manager says 'We thank the Times for choosing Pump Aid as the international charity for the Christmas appeal. This is a great opportunity for Pump Aid to raise our profile, the work we do with rural communities in southern Africa and highlight the water and sanitation issues faced by millions of people everyday.'
In the coming weeks there will be news stories everyday in the Times newspaper, so buy the paper, read the stories of Pump Aid's work and the lasting legacy of clean water and sanitation. You can also check out our Times Christmas Appeal page on our website.

Congratulations to The Times on their choice. I just watched a story on CNN about Zimbabwe that focused on the current cholera epidemic but which somewhere mentioned Pump Aid and the “elephant pump”. That was just enough for me to Google those terms and find the website so that I could donate to this organisation. I like the idea that my monthly donation will buy a whole pump about once a year, but then again, if it goes to raising more awareness of this wonderful charity and thereby bringing in even more donations, that’s okay, too. With cholera on the rampage, these pumps are saving lives and that was the most urgent reason for my decision to donate. But I am also impressed by the comprehensive approach that Pump Aid has chosen, bringing in farming- and hygiene-related charities to maximise the effectiveness on the overall health and prosperity of any village that gets a pump. I like the fact that it is “appropriate” technology, easy to repair from locally available materials. Everything about it seems to demonstrate lessons learned about how to help people in a sustainable way.
I am trekking up Mt. Kilimanjaro on 30th December and would like to raise funds for a charity. I was born & brought up in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and therefore would prefer that the funds were directed to that country; but the state that it is in, I suppose that it is impossible to get funds through without the corruption taking the cream.
I just wondered if there was a way that i could do a justgiving.com page and say that the money was going to a particular cause/country; either mozambique, tanzania or preferably Zimbabwe – might that be possible?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Shelley-Anne
Fantastic News
I read The Times anyhow and have been a donor to PumpAid in the past. This year my donation was trebled thanks to the support of Aqua Aid – as a result there will be 3 new pumps this year arising from the donation.
I was alerted to the appeal of PumpAid by a business associate a few years ago and love the whole ethos of this charity – simple ideas applied by those who benefit and own the solution with incredible impact on the lives of their entire communities.
