The Programme

Pump Aid builds appropriate technology water pumps that can be maintained by poor rural communities without any outside assistance. These pumps provide clean drinking water and can also be used to sustain crops during the dry season or through periods when rains fail, as they have in recent years.
At schools, provision of clean water saves lives and can even prevent the school from closing due to outbreaks of water borne disease. Far too many schools rely on polluted water sources such as unprotected wells or rivers and dams where livestock and people drink and bathe.

At present Pump Aid operates in the Eastern Highlands province of Manicaland in Zimbabwe with a field office at Watsomba in Mutasa District. About 50 new pumps can be built each month, many of which many are at poor rural schools. Each pump serves an average of 200 people, meaning that each month about 10,000 more people, mainly children, benefit from a sustainable supply of clean water

As operations expand within Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique, Pump Aid is also evaluating opportunities in other countries.
