FAQs
How deep is the pump well?
On average 30 m but we can go as far as 50 m depending on the topography on the ground. All of our wells are hand-dug by our staff and community members.
Where does Pump Aid work?
Pump Aid operates country programmes in Malawi and Zimbabwe and in 2009 launched a pilot programme in Liberia. In Malawi we work in rural communities in the northern and central regions. We work in most parts of Zimbabwe.
How much does an Elephant pump cost?
$2000 for all materials, labour costs and training; benefitting 250 people.
Can I buy an Elephant Pump or Elephant Toilet for my friends in Africa?
Pump Aid works with all rural communities in Malawi and Zimbabwe. Our approach is to engage community leaders to ensure we prioritise and reach the most vulnerable communities. In short, you can buy an Elephant Pump or Toilet but we cannot build it in a specific community at your request.
What percentage of the donation goes to administration?
We strive to be cost efficienct at all levels. Administration costs at Pump Aid are 5%, i.e. 5p from every £1 you donate.
How can I donate?
Can someone from Pump Aid visit my school or community group and give a presentation?
The Pump Aid UK team is very small and we unfortunately cannot always accept these invitations. From time to time we are able to visit community groups or schools based in and around London. Email us at fundraising@pumpaid.org with your details and we will see what we can do.
