School Fundraising Ideas

There are many ways of getting your school raising funds and support for Pump Aid.  Whether you’re a teacher or a student there are a range of ideas and teaching resources to get started.

Get your students involved in running their own events. Let them use their own initiatives to organise events for you. Remember that an educational element can be added to most events, for example a sponsored walk can be used to illustrate how far some school children have to walk to fetch water, before going to school.

Teaching Resources

Here are some great lesson ideas that will engage your students on a variety of water related issues using cross-curricular themes exploring water related issues around access to clean and safe water.

Our lesson ideas can be adapted according to your curriculum needs and available time. Activities are ideal for independent ICT sessions or teacher-led interactive whiteboard use.

Pump it up!

How fit is your school! Arrange an aerobic workout and pump out some energy, you can use your school sports hall and get all your teachers, families and schoolmates on bored. Either charge people to join the class or get some sponsorship and see how long you can all last.  It is not only a chance to raise some donations, but a real chance to scope out the best mover of your school!

Teachers Car Wash

We all know teachers don’t like to wash their own cars, so why don’t you do it for them, for a price of course, and give all the proceeds to Pump Aid. Why don’t you try using only 20L of water per car to make it all sparkly and clean? One person in Malawi will survive off just 20L of water a day; this is for all their basic needs, such as cooking, washing, drinking, and hygiene, see if you can take on the challenge!

20 litre challenge

(This is not suitable for children under the age of 16 years)

Can you survive on 20L of water per day? Now, this is inclusive of all your hygiene, food, drinking, washing and even toilet flushing uses. Well one flush of an average toilet in the UK uses 10 L of water! Download our 20L diary and top tips and see if you can do the challenge. Once you have completed, send through your diary and photo and we will put it up on our website.

Walking for water

Women and young children are often the water collectors within most rural families. They have to walk up to 5 miles a day to collect water. You could arrange a sponsored walk with your school and all walk a massive 5 miles, you could even do it carrying water and see how you get on!

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Does your school run the award? Fundraising is just one of the activities participants can take part in to complete their award under the ‘Service’ Section. If your school doesn’t run the award then maybe a local school does or you could contact your local awards organiser.

Non-Uniform days

These are very popular – but how about a twist – get sponsored to wear your uniform all weekend.
