

The team
Pump Aid is a significant team effort, our dedicated and passionate staff work together right across continents to meet the goals of Pump Aid. We currently have offices in Zimbabwe, Malawi and London.
Pump Aid employs nearly 200 people who have been trained in well digging and pump installation.
Zimbabwe Team
Alfred Hamadziripi, Training Manager
Alfred Hamadziripi has extensive development work experience with international non-governmental organisations in southern and eastern Africa. He has managed and coordinated diverse projects that include micro enterprise finance, agri-input and output marketing, small dams rehabilitation, food and agricultural input distribution. He has designed and provided technical capacity building and support to international and local NGOs.
Lazarus Chapungu, M&E Officer
He joined Pump Aid in 2007 after working for Scientific and Industrial Research Development Centre (SIRDC) as a research scientist. He heads the M&E department and works with partners to ensure that quantitative and qualitative data is collected and analysed to produce reports. He helps to establish and maintain monitoring and evaluation systems and tools, building on current indicators developed by partners in the field.
Audrey Chagwedera, Administrator
Audrey has great experience as an administrator and has worked in the office in Zimbabwe since 2004. She supports the needs of the office. Audrey worked as an administrator at the Central Vehicle Registry, The Zimbabwe Open University and for Boarder City Cooperative before joining Pump Aid.
Tendai Mawunga, Programmes Director
Tendai Mawunga has worked in various capacities in Zimbabwe and Malawi. He has recently been appointed to the position of Programmes Director. His wide ranging experience is expected to be beneficial in bringing a turnaround in the day to day running of Pump Aid.
Matilda Pugede, Finance Director
Matilda is the finance Director for Malawi, and has just relocated from Zimbabwe to take on the position. She is a chartered accountant and works closely with the International Finance Director.
Malawi Team
Sekaone Phiri, Programme Manager
Has a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Malawi. She has vast experience in Programme management. She has assumed various roles and responsibilities like being a member of the National Task Force on Gender Advocacy Initiatives, Malawi Gender Trainers Team and Technical Working Group on Child Protection issues. She worked for Centre for Alternatives for Victimised Women and Children for eight years before joining Pump Aid Malawi as a Programme Manager on 7th July 2009. She is responsible for planning and management of programme operations.
Thelma Mukuchura, Acting Programme Officer
Has 17 years experience in well sinking, deepening and lining of shallow wells and borehole siting and drilling. Thelma has a Post Graduate Diploma in Water and Sanitation and currently studying Bachelors of English and Communication Studies with Zimbabwe Open University. She has worked with the Government of Zimbabwe under the District Development Fund and Save the Children (UK) then joined Pump Aid in January 2007. She is currently Acting Programme Officer responsible for the day to day planning and management of field activities in Malawi.
Shepherd Mubaiwa, Acting Programme Officer
Has vast experience in construction industry and property management. He has worked with Hwange Colliery and Post and Telecommunications Corporations. He joined Pump Aid in Zimbabwe in September 2007 then moved to Pump Aid Malawi in August 2009 to support training and skill transfer to staff engaged in the country programme. He is currently Acting Programme Officer responsible for the day to day planning and management of field activities.
Liberia Team
Miattah Walker, Programmes Manager
Miattah has a background in fundraising – in particular direct mail and telephone – having worked in the NGO and higher education sectors in the UK. She joined Pump Aid in Feb 2010 to manage and coordinate Pump Aid's operations in Liberia. She is also responsible for developing and implementing the internship programme for former child soldiers.
Cynthia Brown, Team Leader
Having been recruited and trained in Ghana in 2008. Cynthia continued as a Trainee in Liberia in 2009 in which she excelled to assume the role of Team Leader for the entire field team of Trainees in Liberia in September 2009. Her responsibility is to supervise teams at Field Level as well as Inventory management and Field Logistics.
Godfrey Nyandoro, Trainer WATSAN
Godfrey Nyandoro has vast experience working on Pump Aid Technologies. He was appointed Trainer in Water and Sanitation responsible for Training in Pump Building and Sanitation. Prior to This Appointment he has served as a Team Leader in Both Zimbabwe and Malawi Programmes.
Robson Kasiyandim, Trainer Well Sinker
Robson is an expert in Well sinking and has also served for both Zimbabwe and Malawi Program in the Well Sinking capacity. His responsibility is to impart well sinking knowledge to Trainees. He has also helped in WATSAN training.
Owen Sango, Trainer Workshop
Owen has served as a Welder for both Zimbabwe and Malawi Programmes. He is responsible for setting up the workshop and Training of Trainees in The Metal Workshop Department including Safety regulations.
UK Team
Gwen Vaughan, Chief Executive
Gwen has extensive experience of managing non-profit organizations both in the UK and internationally. She has led such organizations as the Living Earth Foundation (an international organization working across public, private and community sectors for sustainable development), Gingerbread (the UK’s leading organization for lone parent families) and the BAT Biodiversity Partnership (an innovative partnership between corporate and non-profit environmental organizations developing good practice for biodiversity and ecosystem services through the agricultural supply chain). Gwen specializes in strategic organizational development, and has been brought to Pump Aid to consolidate the growth and continued development of the organization.
Ian Thorpe, Founder and Development Director
Ian divides his time between the UK and the field. He is responsible for liaising with donors and reporting to the Trustees. Ian also meets and consults with key government officials and other NGOs. Ian has worked as a teacher at a rural Zimbabwean school and has ten years experience supervising development projects in Zimbabwe. As a result he has a deep understanding of Shona culture and speaks the language fluently. Ian has helped Pump Aid win the prestigious St. Andrews Award for the Environment twice for the Elephant Pump and most recently, the Elephant Toilet.
Nimrod Nyakanyanyanga, International Finance Director ACCA, ACIS
Nimrod is both a qualified accountant and qualified company secretary and has experience of preparing accounts under UK Charitable guidelines. He is the International Finance Director for Pump Aid and supports the country programme finance departments.
Thessa Madden, Programmme Support Officer
Thessa graduated from SOAS with a Masters in International Studies and Diplomacy and was very keen to work in international development. She currently works with the International Director to ensure the field is fully supported and with developing operations there. Her role also includes M&E and she acts as the point of contact in the UK for all programmes related queries. She also works closely on HR and Office Management.
Peter Kenworthy, HR Consultant Director, CFCIPD
Peter provides professional people management support in the UK and to the HR Managers in country programme offices on a part-time basis. He now runs his own HR consultancy business, specialising in the voluntary sector, after working for WaterAid and being a development worker in Tanzania for 9 years.
