Trustees

Ben Nealon (Chair)

Ben is an actor. He has been involved in Pump Aid since he met Ian Thorpe, Amos Chitungo and Tendai Mawunga whilst filming in Zimbabwe in 1998. He convened the first trustees meeting in January 1999 and is currently the Chairman of the board of trustees.

Megan Bingham-Walker

Megan was one of the members of the Pump Aid 2000 expedition to Zimbabwe and Mozambique and the Pump Aid Malawi expedition in 2004. Megan is currently an Associate at the cleantech venture capital firm WHEB Ventures.  She joined WHEB in mid-2007 following nearly four years as a civil service fastreamer for the UK Government's Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform where she worked on a range of policy areas including renewable energy policy.  One of her roles at BERR was Private Secretary to the Secretary of State.  Megan started her career as an investment analyst for the Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS).

Jeremy Berkoff

Jeremy Berkoff is a development economist who has specialised in irrigation and water resources, mainly in Asia but also in Africa and the Middle East.  He spent eighteen years with the World Bank, and has also worked for the British Government and for consultancy firms.  Since 1994 he has been an independent consultant, concentrating mainly on water resources planning and policy issues at national, regional and basin levels.

Mutsa Chironga

Mutsa grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe, and was involved in the 2004 expedition that led to Pump Aid working in Malawi in partnership with World Vision. He has worked as an economist for the UK Department for Education, and at different times as a consultant and an accountant for both Andersen and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. He has completed a Masters in Public Administration and International Development at Harvard University as a Kennedy Scholar.

Andrew Mills

Andrew is a Chartered Accountant with over a decade of experience in delivering financial and strategic advice to clients. Since 2007 he has been the director of an independent financial research company.  Before that Andrew was an assistant director in PricewaterhouseCoopers' Valuation & Strategy practice, and worked across the UK, Europe and the United States. Andrew also has wide experience in auditing and financial reporting, and before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers spent several years with Arthur Andersen. As well as his accountancy qualification he is a member of the Securities and Investment Institute.

Shungu Munyati

Shungu is currently Director for Training and Research administration at the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI). Previously Shungu was Head of the Water and Sanitation Unit at the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), responsible for research, training and service on appropriate technologies for the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health's rural water supply, sanitation and diseases prevention programmes. Her current research interest focuses on behavioural/social science issues working with intervention agencies in various districts on the development of research based interventions for supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

John Stone

John Stone is Chairman of Lombard International Assurance SA, a company which he founded, based in Luxembourg specializing in wealth management services for wealthy investors. John is involved with several internationally focused organisations, working in Africa.

Martha Tumani Rukini

Born in Zimbabwe Martha Rukuni is a graduate from University of Zimbabwe and the Durham University Business School.  She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Zimbabwe in 1988 after serving a clerkship with Deloittte Touche. Martha has worked in various capacities mainly in the financial aspects of the business sector in Zimbabwe. Martha's experience covers general business administration, financial advisory and asset management for both private and corporate clients. Currently she manages a financial advisory services company in which she was instrumental in setting up in 2003.

 

Advisors

Professor Richard Carter 

Richard has worked for more than 30 years on the natural science, social science and engineering of water development and management, focusing especially on the poorest countries of sub-Saharan Africa. Richard is driven by a passion to contribute to poverty alleviation in low-income countries and communities. He pursues this goal through long-term partnerships with a wide range of public sector, private sector and non-Governmental organisations in developing countries. He joined Cranfield University in 1981 and was appointed Professor in 2002.

Prof Anthony Butterworth FRS

Anthony is a fellow of the Royal Society who has specialized in the immunology and epidemiology  of human parasitic disease. He has spent many years working in East Africa investigating schistosomiasis, a disease caused by parasitic worms that are transmitted by fresh-water snails, which is common in rural areas throughout Africa, including Zimbabwe. He lived in Kenya for four years during the mid 70's, and since then has spent several months each year in Kenya and Uganda. Anthony currently lives in Malawi.

Bobby Lambert

Bobby has over 25 years professional experience in international relief and development, as a practitioner, academic, chief executive and trustee. He served for 10 years from 1996 as Chief executive of RedR, a London based international humanitarian organisation, and 12 years in developing countries, principally in Africa. Prior to that he spent 8 years in the university sector, researching and lecturing on international development issues. He worked in Tanzania as a field engineer with the Irish NGO, Concern, and in Zambia with HP Gauff, a commercial consulting firm.
